THE BUZZ!

Bill Douglas's intensive research is as fascinating as Dan Brown's (a la The Da Vinci Code). However, Douglas delves beyond Brown's western archives, into ancient Eastern and Aboriginal realms of wisdom - elegantly tying them to western spiritual history - exploring their essence by citing actual and amazing modern cutting-edge research into human consciousness.

And it's all layered within a nail-biting narrative of three-dimensional characters running, not just for their lives, but for the survival of modern civilization.

This rich tapestry of high action, research based edu-tainment that Douglas's novel offers is the literary equivalent of the guilty pleasure of a hot fudge sundae - with the nutritional value of a healthy, organic meal.

   Liminal Art movement

How did this novel come into being?

An interesting story!

Two years ago, Bill Douglas had never heard of the 2012 prophecies. Although he'd written a best selling Tai Chi book, he'd never thought of ever writing a novel.

One morning Bill Douglas was taking a meditation class with his teacher. She said, "Bill, I'm not going to do our scheduled class today. It occurs to me you've spent the last years expending a great deal of yang energy, just as the world has. Today, we are going to work on your yin, receptive, feminine energy."

That week during a meditation, a person named Ravi came into Bill's mind with a story to tell. He ran to his computer and 3 chapters poured onto his computer screen, as he struggled to keep up typing it down. Then the story stopped.

A few nights later, at 3 am, he woke up with a realization. Young Ravi was a woman, not a man. The next 3 weeks Bill again struggled to keep up with a story pouring through his mind, trying to get it all typed into his computer.

His novel was set in the year 2012, and it was about a feminine awakening for humanity. Bill had no idea there had been ancient Mayan predictions of a celestial event in that year, they called the "opening of the birth canal of the Cosmic Mother."

After finishing his novel, Bill sent a copy to two trusted friends, who days later began discussing 12/21/2012, as if Bill knew what they were talking about. Both were astonished to find Bill hadn't a clue about the prophecies, each exclaiming in their own way, "Bill, you must be kidding! Your novel is about the prophecies!"

If this makes the hair stand up on your arms . . . you may or may not be comforted to know . . . it did on the author's as well.

How did Bill Douglas become an author?

A VERY interesting story.

Bill never liked English class. He never wrote, unless required to for a grade.

Then in the early 1980's, while living in Southern California and enjoying the free spirited life of a body surfer, within a period of about one year, Bill lost his mother, father, and youngest son, Isaac.

Life lost its meaning - Bill walked away from all the things of man, TV, radio, newspapers. He walked on the beach, watched the endless waves, meditated, and one night he got down on his knees and prayed, "God, show me why I'm here."

That night in his sleep, a voice spoke to him, "I am about to show you what life could be like." This entity, then touched him in his heart, and a brilliant light expanded, taking his breath away. Bill was then touched in the center of his mind, and the same light expanded. This illumination continued to expand, Bill became the light which moved on out and upward through his home, the trees, and out into space. He felt a thousand feelings all at once, and then fear came in. Everything collapsed, and Bill found himself sitting up in his bed, arms outstretched, gasping for breath.

He rose from bed with his head swimming with ideas, and he sat naked in his kitchen and began to write down his feelings. By morning he had a stack of notes and poems, many about children, their innocence, and what children have to teach us.

For several weeks he was obsessed with writing, until eventually he began to wonder why he was doing it. It made no sense, he was a file clerk.

He was about to stop writing. Then his sister called him from Kansas, with a very strange message. She said, "Mom came to me in a dream last night, and took me to a pure white room with a stack of white papers."

Bill's sister had had no idea that he'd been writing, nor about his spiritual experience of weeks before. He had told no one about it. His sister continued, "Mom began flipping through the papers saying, 'look what Jr.'s been doing.'"

Bill's hand trembled as he asked, "What did she show you I'd been writing?"

Bill's sister replied, "Oh, there was so much. I remember there were things about children, poems, and stories about what children have to teach us about life."

Bill wept, knowing his Mother had been watching.

His sister started to hang up, and then quickly added, "Wait! Mom made me promise to tell you this. She said that you've been doubting what you are doing because it is so new to your life. Mom said that it is VERY IMPORTANT that you keep writing."

A few years later Bill was contracted by a New York publishing house to write a book on Tai Chi & Qigong meditation, which became a #1 best seller in the field, published in several languages. It later was instrumental in founding a global health & healing event that has affected millions worldwide.

2012: The Awakening is Bill's first novel. His next novel
is entitled A Conspiracy of Spirits, and will be released in 2011.

Did you know?

Ravi was named after Ravi Shankar, the famed sitarist who played with the Beatles and was a lifelong influence for George Harrison. Ravi's mother, who was a sitarist, had given Ravi her name in tribute to the man, after studying with him for many years. Ravi's mother had eventually played benefit concerts to end world hunger with Bono, Sting, and Bruce Springsteen, and many others.

The controversial Shankar Seva Samiti movement that ordained women Hindu priests, that Ravi's father spoke of when she was a child, actually did take place in the 1980's. And it did occur in Ravi's mother and father's hometown of Pune, India. *

Oxford Union's Debate Club, where Ravi's part in the feminine global awakening began, on January 22, 2009, invited Ms. Sherry Rehman (Pakistan's Minister for Information and Broadcasting) to address a forum at Oxford Union on the reasons behind the under-representation of women in politics. Her talk's title was, 'Where Are All The Women?' *

Besides Ravi, other pre-eminent speakers invited by the prestigious society at Oxford include, Benazir Bhutto, Mother Theresa, the Dalai Lama, Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tutu and Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth of England to name but a few. *

Ravi's earlier occupation in micro-banking, is an actual movement in banking, whereby individuals can invest in micro-banks, making loans as small as a few dollars to imporverished people worldwide. (The repayment rate for micro-banks is higher than that for standard banks in wealthy nations.) Its founder Muhammad Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. *

Psychic phenomenon studied by the US government's intelligence services, as alluded to in the novel, included remote viewing involving test subjects who described scenes hundreds of miles away without having ever been there physically. This was also demonstrated by a young boy on the CBS News Magazine - 60 Minutes. While in a studio many miles away, the boy astrally traveled to the New York City apartment of the show's anchor and described it, as a 60 Minutes camera that was actually in the apartment showed the boy's description to be completely accurate. *

Johannes Kepler, who Ravi first referred to during her speech at Oxford, is known as a father of modern astronomy. The author of 2012: The Awakening often took his children to see Kepler's statue when visiting the Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles, California. *

The soul of the newly born baby is marked for life by the pattern of the stars at the moment it comes into the world, unconsciously remembers it, and remains sensitive to the return of configurations of a similar kind.

- Kepler, Harmonics Mundi, chapter 7 *

The famed father of Jungian psychology, Carl Jung, also shared his thoughts on astrology, as well as famed scientist and science-fiction author, Arthur C. Clarke.

We are born at a given moment in a given place and like vintage years of wine we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything else.

- Carl Jung *

I don't believe in astrology; I'm a Sagittarius and we're skeptical.

- Arthur C. Clarke *

Ravi had also cited what appear to be astrological references from the Bible, attributable to Jesus. Its worth noting that while some have suggested these indicate an advocacy of astrology, this has been a very controversial subject. One reference in the Bible regarding astrology is more difficult to dismiss. In Book of Matthew, the men who are drawn by the star to Jerusalem are referred to as "Magi," which meant "astrologers." This would mean that the Bible notes that the first Gentiles to recognize Jesus as a divine prophet were astrologers. *

Contrary to current beliefs, some support for astrology existed in the early Christian church, then waned during the suppressive Dark Ages or Western history, but again resurged during the Renaissance.

Catherine de' Medici, who was King Henry II of France's queen, played a role in astrologies popularity in France. Her court astrologer was Michel de Notredame (Nostradamus). In 1555 he published his pinnacle work on astrology, Les Propheties ("The Prophecies"). *

Ravi's reference to Einstein's warning on technology outstripping our humanity, was discovered by Ravi, after she had discovered the following Einstein quotes, which spurred her on to study his other lesser known statements:

I assert that the cosmic religious experience is the strongest and the noblest driving force behind scientific research.

- Albert Einstein *

The more I study physics, the more I am drawn to metaphysics.

- Albert Einstein *

Rachel, Ravi's older sister, had been a bit of a party girl while away at University in Chicago. Which is why she was better at cigarette smoking than Ravi was.

The shift from the Piscean Age to the Aquarian Age, Ravi referred to at Oxford, is occurring now according to many philosophers. Astronomers would say that it will occur in about 500 years from now. Astrologers believe that the ages change with the beginning and the ends of the millenniums. *

The scientific studies cited in 2012: The Awakening are actual studies on the effects mind-body meditative techniques have on individuals and on society around them . *
